Believe it or not, we’ve been preparing for the English midterm all year long. The best thing students can do to prepare is READ. Reading at least 20 minutes per night will help you to not only become a better reader overall, it will also help prepare you for reading comprehension testing, part of almost all the different subject area midterms.
English 7 midterm details:
Our midterm will take place in class on January 17th-18th, and during the week of midterms, on January 23rd from 8-10 am.
The in class portion of the exam will be a listening passage followed by multiple choice questions, short answer questions, and an essay (extended response). The exam on January 23rd will consist of two test booklets. The first test book will include 5 different reading passages of different genres (informational, poetry, fiction, etc) along with 26 multiple choice questions. The second test book will include two reading passages, short answer questions, and an essay. All writing portions of the exam will be graded on content and grammar, spelling and punctuation. Revise and edit carefully!
What can you do to prepare?
1. Read at least 20 minutes a night.
2. Study the literary elements we’ve gone over in class (you will get a review packet the week of January 9th made up of posters students in the 7th grade have made).
3. Study the test taking strategies that we go over in class and record in our ELA flip chart (starting the week of January 9th).
4. Eat breakfast, get a good night’s sleep, and be confident that you’ll do well on the exam! Good luck!
